Mass of Christian burial will be Sunday for Linda J. Haines of Sharpsville, an elementary teacher in the Sharon School District. She passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Aug. 29, 2013, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 56.

Mrs. Haines was born May 21, 1957, in Pittsburgh. She was one of two children born to Matthew S. Hudzinski and Lois J. Watts Hudzinski. Linda was raised in the Sheraden area of Pittsburgh and graduated from Holy Innocents Elementary School and from Langley High School in 1975. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Edinboro University and her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Linda’s first teaching assignments were in the Pittsburgh area including Falk Laboratory School, St. Bernadette Catholic School and St. Martin’s Elementary School. She began working in Sharon School District in 1990 as a substitute teacher at Musser Elementary School. She started full-time teaching in 1992 as a sixth-grade teacher at Case Avenue Elementary School, where she was currently employed. Linda was proud of her students and their achievements and she was particularly proud of her school, as it was honored in 2011 with the National Blue Ribbon School Award. She also assisted with the Children’s Opportunities for Outside Learning (COOL) program designed to further assist students after school.

In her spare time, Linda simply enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, vacations at the beach, traditional holiday gatherings, and taking long walks in Buhl park.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Frederick R. Haines Jr., whom she married Oct. 16, 1982; and her loving son, Michael Frederick Haines, Delaware, a recent graduate of Penn State Behrend who was born in 1990 and whom she was very proud of. Other surviving family include her mother, Lois J. Hudzinski, Pittsburgh; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bonnie and Frederick R. Haines Sr., Sharpsville; her brother, Matthew S. Hudzinski and his wife Jean C.; and two nephews, David M. and Andrew R. Hudzinski, all Pittsburgh; and her sister-in-law, Carol S. Lelo and her husband Brian, New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her father, Matthew S. Hudzinski, a World War II veteran.
