Spring Grove - Charles P. Becker, age 94, passed away at home, with his family by his side, on March 4, 2021. He was the loving husband of the late Ann E. (Wise) Becker, who passed away in 2014. They were married for 65 years.

Charles was born in Heidelberg Township on February 23, 1927 and was the son of the late Paul J. Becker and Grace P. (Geiman) Becker. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II in the European theater and was honorably discharged. His family began Becker's Grocery Store on N. Water Street in Spring Grove where he worked on his return from the war. He and Ann then purchased Wise's Taproom from her parents, and they remodeled it and renamed it the Papertown Inn. They owned and operated it for many years. Later he worked at Hanover Klondike. After retirement, he enjoyed helping his son-in -law and daughter on their farm, Texas Longhorn Beef Company, for many years. He was an avid gardener who took pride in his crops. He won ribbons at the York Fair for some of his produce. His work ethic was second to none. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favorite places to go were the hunting cabin in Lycoming County and his many trips to fish including deep sea fishing at Ocean City, Maryland.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Loyal Order of the Moose and a member of Spring Grove Area Historical Preservation Society. He was a former member of the Jefferson and Spring Grove Sportsman's Clubs, Spring Grove Fire Company and Spring Grove Lions Club. In later years he loved watching Nascar. He enjoyed owing dogs and cats over the years including his current dog, Chip.

He is survived by his daughter Christine P. Mummert and her husband Bill of Spring Grove; his grandchildren W. Tyler Mummert and his wife Sharon and Sally J. Doron and her husband Bill; his great grandchildren Carrie Baez and her husband Joe-on, Jenna Shearer and her husband Ben, Will Doron and his fiancee, Kayla, Anna Doron and his great great granddaughter Melanie Shearer. He was predeceased by his sisters Genevelyn Myers and Helen Becker. He was dearly loved by all of his family.
