Wichita Falls - Douglas W. Murphy passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Doug was 49 years old and lived in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. A graveside Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, Texas with Chaplain Shaun Campbell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
Doug was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on July 29, 1971 to George W. Murphy, Jr. and Lohoma (Johnson) Murphy. He attended school in Iowa Park and Vernon, Texas. He was employed at Quality Inn and Suites before his death. Prior to that, Doug owned the former local bar DeVoe's and made it a safe haven for everyone to come together to be themselves, celebrate, cry, make memories with friends, and just talk. He always had a listening ear, encouragement to give, and a shoulder to cry on. Doug filled any room he was in with his huge love, booming laughter, and fierce joy. He made a difference in countless people's lives and was a beacon in his community of hundreds of friends. Doug loved his family so thoroughly and so heartily that
his absence can never be filled. He was a devoted and dedicated son, brother, uncle, friend, and partner.
Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, John "Bud" Johnson and Bertha (Ingle) Johnson; his great aunt, Bernice Rushing; his great-grandfather, George W. Murphy Senior; cousin, LaDonna Johnson; and uncles, Don, Larry, and Danny Johnson.
Doug is survived by his parents, George and Lohoma Murphy of Wichita Falls; his sister, Stephanie (Murphy) Posey and her spouse Everett of Humble, Texas; his niece and nephew, Gracie and Landon Posey of Humble, Texas; his dear friends, Brian Garcia and Brandon McCoy; his uncle, Garry Johnson and his wife Gloria; and his uncle, Jesse Johnson and his wife Sue.
