Michael R. "Mike" Boerner, age 60, passed away on Aug. 28, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

Mike was born on March 27, 1960 and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School, class of 1978, and received his college degree from TSTI. Mike married Michelle DeFord Boerner, whom he would affectionately refer to as "Funshine" and "Baby" on Oct. 20, 1984. Together they had two sons, Mason R. Boerner and Mitchell D. "Mitch" Boerner.

Mike was a man of faith, loved and believed in God. He was very active in his boys' lives, coaching their Little League baseball teams, traveling all over Texas, and even to Nebraska while they played select baseball. Mike also served as baseball commissioner for many years while the family resided in Boerne, Texas.

Mike's greatest joy in life was watching his boys grow into fine, young men, receiving their college degrees and instilling in them integrity, honesty, respect for themselves and others, self discipline, perseverance, courage, faithfulness, love of God and country. Mike was an exemplary father to his boys and as they grew into adulthood he was their best friend.

Mike didn't think life could get any better until the birth of his first grandchild, Benjamin Michael, who arrived in December of 2018. What a proud "Pops" he was! Oh, how he would brag about his "Benji" and text pictures of him to anyone and everyone! Anything his Benji wanted or needed, his Pops would make sure he received it, especially popsicles. Together they would sit out on the back porch and plow through a whole box of popsicles in less than a day!

In addition to Benjamin, Mike was also very proud of his stepgrandchild, Jamison, Benjamin's big brother, and would often comment on what a great arm Jamison had and how he was going to make a fine baseball player one day.

Mike retired from the State of Texas, Railroad Commission of Texas after almost 29 years of service. He worked in the Oil & Gas Division, providing supervision and oversight in the plugging of abandoned/orphaned oil wells taken over by the State, which spanned many counties in South Texas. Mike was highly dedicated to his job, receiving several awards and accolades from the State of Texas.

Upon his retirement in 2012, Mike went into the oilfield consulting business, and in 2014, he and his wife, Michelle,
Managers

Boerne/ relocated back to his beautiful, historic hometown of Fredericksburg, Texas where they custom built their dream home, their Fredericksburg farmhouse cottage, "Shady Pecan Haus," in which he and Michelle personally designed, and in which Mike took great pride.
