Arthur (Art) D. Sandvig was born in Thor, Iowa on Feb 22, 1924 and passed away on March 1, 2021. Art was a gardener, golfer, square dancer, croquet player, and Rook player. Fond of exercise to keep healthy, and a regular daily walking loop, he was affectionately known in his retirement community as "the walker". Art was the youngest of nine children, born to Jens and Emily Sandvig. Being the youngest, he was nicknamed Bud by his family. After graduating from high school and briefly farming, he spent four years in the Army during World War II, a member of the Signal Corps. Afterwards, he attended college on the GI bill for four years earning a degree in Accounting. During a summer session, he met Mary Sparrow and they were married in 1951. Art's accounting career with Cargill had the family on the move with stints in Texas, Kansas, Memphis, Minnesota and Memphis again. They had three children: Debra of Minnesota, Dinah (Jim) of Memphis and Scott of Memphis. Art was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2013 and his eight siblings. Besides his three children, Art is also survived by four grandchildren, Jenn, Erik (Haley), Nicole (Mark) and Ryan (Amanda) and great-grandchildren, James and Mary.
