Joseph E. Butler, 80, of Troy, passed away on March 4, 2021 at the Van Rensselaer Manor.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Francis and Elizabeth Bentley Butler.

Joseph worked in Parks and Recreation for the city of Troy for many years.

He loved helping in the community and volunteering for many organizations including Unity House, the Salvation Army and Toys for Tots. He enjoyed playing countless games of checkers with his grandchildren.



Joseph was the devoted father of James Butler of Hoosick Falls, Bernadette Butler and Frieda Butler, both of Troy; brother of Elizabeth LaFountian of St. Petersburg, FL and the late, Leo Butler, Frances Gusswiller, Mary Cummings and Helena Miller. Also survived by several cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.

Attendees are required to wear a facial covering, observe social distancing and adhere to capacity limits.
