"LIVERMORE. (From the Livermore Herald).

The death of Mrs. Julia A[nn] Thompson [nee Smith] at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 28 days, occurred at the Pratt home in San Jose last Sunday [May 15]. Her passing away was peaceful and quiet, due only to the natural infirmities of old age. Over sixty years ago she was converted to the Methodist belief and up to the time of her death, had been a conscientious worker in that faith. In 1858 she founded the Methodist Church at Alvarado, raising the money to construct the little church building by personally interesting men of means of San Francisco and other places. Her surviving children are Edward W[illiam] and George W[ashington] Huff, and step-son, Socrates Huff, of Oakland. The remains were forwarded to Livermore Tuesday and the funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, Rev. M. H. Alexander officiating. Interment was made in Masonic Cemetery [now Roselawn]."
