Nora was born in Macoupin County, Illinois. on 10 Dec 1844, to Samuel M and Rebecca Wright Lewis. The Lewis family was a large family. Nora had 7 sister and 2 brothers. Many persons in the Lewis family appear to have been members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints (the Mormons).

Nora married William C. S. Johnson on 03 Nov 1867 in Macoupin County, Illinois, an Illinois county a short distance northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. The couple had three sons - Samuel Nathaniel, William Albert, and Frederick Arthur. After William C. S. Johnson passed away about 1877. Nora traveled with her father and three sons to the Argonia, Kansas, area, where they staked a claim for land and were involved in "farming" according to the 1880 US Census. The family move to Southeast Kansas, near Hollowell, where the tree sons married and raised families. Nora passed away on 18 Feb 1910 and was buried at the Friendship Friends Church Cemetery, Hallowell, Cherokee, Kansas, located 4 miles north of Hollowell, Kansas.
