Lawrence Ray Heckadon was born in Coalgate, Coal County, Oklahoma, to Julius Phillipp Heckadon and Virginia Alice Crooks. His parents were from Bates County, Missouri. In the 1910 and the 1920 Censuses, Lawrence was living with his parents and sister Myrtle in Bates County. Lawrence's father passed away in 1921. In 1925, his mother married Daniel W. Brown in Twin Falls, Idaho (Idaho, U.S., Marriage Records).

Lawrence married Elsie Bell Dawson on 9 August 1922 in Bates County, Missouri (Missouri, U.S. Marriage Records). In 1930, Lawrence, Elsie and their children Ina and Robert were living in Whittier, Los Angeles, California. Lawrence and his family were living in Bates County, Missouri in 1935 and 1940 (U.S. Census Record). In Lawrence's 1942 World War II Draft Registration, he was living in California working for a gold mining company. Lawrence died in Santa Rosa, California, in 1976.
