Edward L. Cook, Sr., 86, passed away on February 25, 2021. Burial will be at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery.

Edward was born on October 15, 1934, in Rice, Texas, to the late Alvah and Lilly Pearl Cook. His father worked as a ranch hand, while his mother worked as a clerk in a book store. The fifth of six children, Edward graduated from Corsicana High School in 1954. He went on to attend Navarro College for two years and served in the National Guard from 1957-1966.

Edward married Eula Bernice Humbert on March 14, 1958, in a small Baptist church in Pickett. They met through her brother, JB Humbert. Edward was a loving husband and father to their children Edward Cook, Jr., Donna Renee Cook, and Marvin Cook. A true family man, he enjoyed all family gatherings and reunions.

Edward worked very hard to support his family. He worked at Ennis Business Forms for 26 years, retiring in 1988. He also started working for the Corsicana Daily Sun at the same time, working there for fifteen years. He was self-employed for five years and then worked at Cox’s Carpet Warehouse until he retired.

As hard as Edward worked, he enjoyed locksmithing and gardening in his free time. He watched sports, and in his younger years spent time hunting and fishing. He loved fried chicken and had a sweet tooth, enjoying candy and cookies. A very friendly man, he loved talking to people. He was known by all to be honorable and trustworthy.

A deeply religious man, Edward was always involved in church at Northwest Baptist. He sang in the choir and was a deacon for a time. Edward was very generous and lived out his faith by helping others when they were in need. He believed that God came first, then family, and then everything else would fall into place. He was a Free Mason for 50 years. Even after he got ill, Edward would watch Sunday services on TV; he very rarely missed watching. His favorite scripture was John 3:16.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Renee Cook; and brothers: Glen, Kelly, and Wendell Cook.

Survivors include his sons, Edward L. Cook, Jr. and Marvin Cook and his wife Stacy; grandchildren: Stephanie Bilodeau and her husband, Kenneth, James Cook, Arthur Cook, Morgan Martin and her husband, Chris II, Miller Cook, and Judson Cook; great-grandchildren: Wesley Bilodeau, Donna Bilodeau, Christopher Martin III, and Samuel Martin; brother, Sidney Cook; sister, Alvah “Cookie” Montgomery; sister-in-law, Jackie Lewis and her husband, Sonny; brother-in-law, JB Humbert and his wife, Wanda; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
