Nolan Huse Osmer, 73, of Huntsville, passed away on January 27, 2021. He is preceded in death by his son, Richard Osmer; father, Emmett Osmer; and sisters, Carolyn Guzman and Anita Kim.

Nolan was born April 19, 1947 in Paint Rock Valley, Alabama. He invested much of his life in helping others. At the age of 22, he began his career as a public servant and officer in the Huntsville Police Department. Sergeant "Oz," as he was known to Huntsville schoolchildren, was selected as the first D.A.R.E. officer in the state of Alabama beginning in 1985 and went on to coordinate all D.A.R.E. training in the state for many years. He retired from HPD in 1999 after 29 years of service.

Nolan was a man of great faith and strong convictions. He loved the Lord and his church. Nolan's family was his greatest joy. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a grandfather who delighted in the blessing of seven grandchildren. Nolan loved and invested in people and had a passion for athletics, coaching in the Civic League at Oak Park for over 20 years and faithfully cheering on the University of Alabama. A natural chef, Nolan most enjoyed feeding and serving the people he loved. His generous life will be greatly missed.
