Irma Jean Christopher was born on March 5, 1946 in Shreveport, LA. She was the second child born to Joseph & Lucille Christopher. She attended Brooks Street Elementary, Central Elementary, J.S. Clark Middle School, and Bethune High School.

Irma left Shreveport to attend Mississippi Valley State College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. From there she went to Chicago, IL and attended Rosary College graduating with a Human Resource Master’s degree. She also attended Chicago State University graduating with a Master’s in Education Administration.

Irma worked in the Chicago school system from 1970 – 2006 as a teacher and Assistant Principal. She retired after 36 years.

Irma returned home to Shreveport in 2011. She united with the New Hope Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and helped with Project New Hope. Irma loved reading God’s word and teaching bible classes. She loved animals, especially cats. Her cats were Pete, Goldie, and Jim. She was a devoted Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Godmother.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Lucille Christopher and nephew Michael Christopher. She left to cherish memories to her sister Gloria C. Gipson (Milton); brother Joe Christopher, Jr.; nieces Martina Williams, Jancequa Spencer & Medisha Christopher; nephew Milton Gipson, Jr.; Cousin Gladys Moore; great nephew & niece Julius & Amari Mitchell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Ms. Irma Jean Martin will be held Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow immediately after at Lincoln Memorial Park. Open Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday Night at Good Samaritan Funeral Home.
