Gerald Franklin Bailey, age 84, of Monticello, died March 3, 2021. Born in Conyers to Lloyd and Mae Bailey, he grew up in Lithonia and was a graduate of Lithonia High School class of 54. Gerald served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked for Irvindale Dairies for many years, then worked as an electrician for Rockdale County School System until her retired after over 20 years of service. Gerald was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming (especially working with his cows), Gerald enjoyed working with his hands, helping to build Unity Church and his own home. Whenever anyone had a project they always wanted to include Gerald, they knew he had the knowledge and the right tools. He and Barbara were members of Bethel Baptist Church, where they were married, and later Unity Baptist Church and were now attending Callie Fuller Church in Monticello. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lewis Bailey; and sister, Sara Killingsworth. Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Snow Bailey of Monticello; daughters, Deborah G. Bailey of Monticello, and Gina Walker and her husband, Michael, of Conyers; brother, Dennis Bailey and his wife, Sandra, of Conyers; grandchildren, Erin Walker and Meredith Myers and her husband, Cole; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 o’clock, Sunday, March 7, at Bethel Baptist Church with Preacher Charles Roper and Rev. Lanny Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from1-2pm prior to the service at the church.
