Howard Samuel Turner, 98, entered into eternal sleep on March 1, 2021. He was born August 27, 1922 to the late Mary and Charles Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Howard Samuel, brothers, Hub Brown, Alphonso Turner, sisters, Carrie Turner-Vaughan and Mozelle Turner Howell.

Howard was a native of Wilkes County, North Carolina and having attained a scholarship to play football on a collegiate level after graduation from high school, he elected to join the military. He worked at Lowe’s for several years, retired and started his own landscaping business. Howard was a loving hard-working man who loved doing for others. He was adored by his family, church family and friends. He enjoyed working outside and was in high demand for his services as a landscaper.

He loved the study of God’s Word, he loved the old gospel songs and he was a bold witness of Christ. He was a very humble person always looking to do something for anyone in need of a service. He was never ashamed to let the world know that Christ truly lived within him. He always wore a smile. He was a warm generous person who opened his heart and home to everybody. He freely shared whatever blessings the Lord bestowed upon him with others.

He is survived by his loving daughter, LaVerne Lewis (LV) and grandson, Brian Lewis (Marcia), who has the pleasure of caring for him for the last 7 years of his life having moved to Hampton. He is also survived by his loving great grandchildren, Meghan and Noah, who he always greeted with a great big smile. He is also survived by loving nieces, Mary Brim and Constance “Anita” (Vernon) King, as well as nephew, Julius Howell.
