Augusta, GA – Mr. William Jerry Sellers, husband of the late Mary Ann Braden Sellers, passed away, Monday, March 1, 2021. Graveside services will be Friday, March 5, 2021, at 2:00PM from Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Sonny Mason officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the graveside.

Mr. Sellers was born November 2, 1931, in Memphis, Tennessee, [Lauderdale County, Tennessee] to the late William Ashley Sellers and Collis Ethel [Effie] Ferguson Hopper, of Ripley, Tennessee.

He was a retired veteran and civil service employee with 40 years of Federal Service. He served in Korea (1952-1953), Germany 1 and Germany 2, Vietnam 1, Vietnam 2, Missle site in California, Ft Bliss, TX, Hawaii, and Fort Gordon, GA. Jerry received the Purple Heart for wounds received on the first of three assaults on Pork Chop Hill in Korea, where only three members of his platoon survived. He also received his Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He received two Bronze Stars and Aircraft Crewman Wings for service in Vietnam. He taught Aircraft Aviation Electronics (Avionics) for years at Fort Gordon. As a civil service employee he performed as training liaison between the Signal School and the contractors for the production of new aircraft equipment as well as the training.

Jerry was a devoted husband and father and adored his only granddaughter and spent all the time possible with her. He was also a devoted member of Mann Mize Memorial United Methodist Church with an active membership since 1963. He filled the following positions while there: board member, member of the Crusader Class, member of the Staff Parrish Relations committee, Chairman of the Staff Parrish Relations committee, member of the Mann Mize Memorial United Methodist Mens Club, where he served as Secretary, Vice President and Treasurer. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter #425.

He enjoyed people, doing for others, antique furniture refinishing and family. His belief was, “If it’s not worth doing well, it’s not worth doing at all.”

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Jeep, of Augusta; his daughter, Joyce Ann Sellers, of Bishop, GA; his granddaughter, Courtney Ashton Jeep (Connor) ; his step grandsons, Ryan Jeep (Amy) and Brandon Jeep (Kathy); his great grandchildren, Ansley, Chandler, Alex, and Sydney; his adopted grandchildren, Carrie (Shel), Katie (Adam), and Patrick (Mary Hull); his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Gene Caldwell, of Ripley,TN; and his brother-in-law, Gene Braden, of Memphis, TN.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mann Mize Memorial United Methodist Church, 2705 Milledgeville Rd, Augusta, GA 30904, to support the “Buddy Program”, which supports the feeding of Veterans from the VA Hospital with homecooked meals; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
