Helen Joyce McCoy
May 15, 1947 – February 24, 2021

Mrs. Helen J. McCoy was born April 15, 1947 to the late Ms. Saraetta Kirk and Elder Virgil Jackson in Atlanta, GA. Helen was blessed to have her second mom Mrs. Lizzie Mae Jackson. She was the oldest of five children.
Helen graduated from L. J. Price High School, Atlanta, GA., 1965. Being the oldest of five children, caring for children and loved ones was natural to her. During her life she was blessed to care for many.

Helen joined the Gosch family in 1995. She was like family to them as she helped raise and take care of their three girls, Hannah Kate, Allie and Mary Belle. She was an integral part of their family as well as Pam Devore and family. They will always remember her for her fantastic cooking. Her pumpkin muffins and chocolate chip cookies were always a big hit! She was very well known at the local area Publix and never missed a day of work. She retired after twenty years but was never far from their hearts.

On August 21, 1966, Helen was united in holy matrimony to the late Horace McCoy. They shared 47 years for better or for worse, in sickness and in health until Horace parted in death January17, 2014. There were no children to this union; however, they raised Larry Hardy Jr., Tiwanna Lambert (Octavias) and Sherries Hardy and the “Big Mama” to Terrell “Hoo-Hoo” Jackson and Jaylen “Peanut” Hardy.

Mother Helen McCoy served faithfully for several years at Calvary COGIC under the leadership of her father Pastor Virgil Jackson as Choir Director and Sunday School Teacher. Upon the demise of Pastor Jackson, she, along with her family re-joined Holy Temple COGIC in 1988 (later Kingdom Glory Ministries COGIC) serving under Supt. Larry E. Mosley. She was a vital part of the ministry by serving in several roles including Music President, Usher President, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Primary Sunday School Teacher, Hospitality President, Pastor’s Aide President and most recently Church Mother. She had a special burden for Missions. She led efforts to support of Jesus Life Ministries (Brother Barrett) by donating her time, talent (cooking) and resources, ministering to those in both physical and spiritual need. Mother McCoy served God and God’s people with all of her heart and to the best of her abilities.

Helen was hospitalized at Emory Midtown Hospital on February 5, 2021 where she continued to “Be the BOSS” like only she could yet divinely touching the lives of the nurses, doctors and staff. God looked down and saw that Helen had fought a good fight and finished her course by saying, “Well done thy good and faithful servant”. Helen was called from labor to reward on February 24, 2021.
