Ms. Myrtle Swain Wright was born on October 3, 1928 to Deacon Jack and Donnella Swain in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was the youngest and last living child of eight children. Myrtle received her formal education in the Broward County Public School System, where she developed a love for learning and knew that one day she would be an educator.

Upon early completion of high school she matriculated to Florida Normal and Industrial College in St. Augustine, Florida (now known as Florida Memorial University) where she achieved her dream of receiving a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

During her time at Florida Normal and Industrial College, Myrtle became a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Sister Wright accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was convicted and baptized at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. As a faithful member, she held roles such as Deaconess, member of the Home Missionary Society (Circle Lydia), and a member of the Women’s Ministry.

Ms. Wright served dutifully in the Broward County Public School System for 35 years doing what she loved best, educating students and touching lives in a positive way. Sister Wright enjoyed helping others and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren along with building relationships with others in the community.

Myrtle Wright was truly blessed, she was married for 54 years to the late Deacon David L. Wright. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Alphonso Wright (Marva) (Decatur, GA), and three daughters who later became her caregivers: Valerie Hinton (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Glenda Allen (North Lauderdale, FL), Davette Wright (Pompano Beach, FL). Her wisdom and love lives on through her grandchildren, Imani Hinton (GA), Andwele Wright (Gwendolyn) (GA), Dahren Allen (Natasha) (FL), Danladi Allen (Tawanna) (FL), Kwende Wright (GA), Shomari Wright (GA), Samad Hinton (Kelly) (TX), and Anjané Hinton(Christina)(GA). Her legacy and strength transcends to her great-grandchildren, Brianna Wright (GA), Chelsea Wright (GA), Zoey Allen (FL), Delauni Wright (GA), Madison Allen (FL), Mason Wright (GA), Alia Hinton (GA), Kendrick Hinton (GA), and Omari Allen (FL) along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Special hearts that are left to mourn are her three godchildren: Van Adams, Dewayne Sworn, and Xavier Rozier, along with her surrogate daughter Elsie Seabrook and special friend Vernerva Thurston.

Upon leaving this earthly place, Myrtle knew it wouldn’t be long, her tired eyes closed, and her strength was nearly gone; frail hands that ministered to many lie quiet and still; light from another world! Look up bereaved, it won’t be long till Dawn! Her love still lives on!
