Mary Albertine (Kurtz) Underwood, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Landmark of Lancaster Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

She was born January 26, 1932 on a farm near Braxton, Mercer County, Kentucky, to the late Thomas Price and Mary Susan (Giles) Kurtz, one of fifteen children. Mary had been an area manager for Stanley Home Products for over 57 years before recently retiring.

She was the widow of Homer "Pud" J. Underwood. Although they had no children, Mary's love of kids was obvious, especially at Christmas, when she would give every child of her many siblings a gift. She had been a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers; Max, Fred, Bob, and Harold "Punchie" Kurtz, and four sisters; Velma Carter, Vera Patterson, Alice Stocker, and Dollie Graham.

She is survived by one brother; Clell (Phyllis) Kurtz of Greenwood, Indiana, five sisters; Edith Pearl Matthews and Juanita Wright of Louisville, Ida Hurt of Lancaster, Norma DeVore of Stanford, and Betty Joyce (Bobby) Wooldridge of Danville, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 8, 2021 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home, Lancaster, by Reverend Mark Kurtz with interment to follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. Monday. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Garrard County Food Pantry or the Salvation Army.
