Paul Frederick Day, age 82, of Novi, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 28, 2021 in Milford, MI.
Paul Frederick Day was born the eldest son and child to Frederick George Day, an immigrant from Cardiff, Wales; and Mary Eleanor Richins of Union City, Oregon, in Provo, Utah. Paul happily welcomed six siblings and was known by them as an example of goodness and light. Paul was a happy child and a dutiful member of his family. He kept a paper route in his neighborhood from a young age and often worked alongside his mother in the Provo Bakery. The responsibility and work ethic he learned in his home carried with him his entire life.
Paul loved music, especially jazz. He played the clarinet and saxophone and often shared fond memories from the years he spent in his traveling band the Rhythmairs. Paul kept his prized instruments in great condition and took them out to entertain his family on special occasions, but he was also known to wake the family early on a Saturday playing the BYU Cougar fight song on game day. Paul was an avid and loyal BYU fan. Like his love of music, Paul loved sports and started playing basketball during grade school. His love of basketball continued into junior high and in 1956, his high school team won the Utah State Championship. After high school and college graduation, Paul enjoyed sports from the sidelines. He was a fan of BYU, Detroit Tigers and U of M football. He loved watching a good game with his kids and grandkids.
During his early adult years, Paul served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Manchester England. His love and affection for England and the British people never faded. After his mission, Paul went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Finance from BYU and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Utah. It was during grad school when Paul met a cute schoolteacher from Portland named, Linda. What began as a blind date eventually blossomed into 51 years of marriage.
Paul and Linda migrated east for employment with Ford Motor Company. Paul worked in several different departments during his 30 plus years with Ford, but his position within the Human Resources and Training division brought him the most satisfaction in his career. Paul was a beloved colleague and minister. He spent many hours in the service of others and within his Church as a Bishop, a counselor in a Stake Presidency, Detroit Mission Presidency, Temple worker, and eventually, as Patriarch.
Paul was best known as a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His six children have built happy lives based on the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ that he taught and exemplified in his home. His traits of love, loyalty, duty, and sacrifice will be felt for generations to come. He is survived by his six siblings, six children and their spouses, and twenty-six grandchildren. All who knew him will miss him but rejoice in the knowledge of his reunion with Linda, who preceded him in death in 2015.
The Day family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 10, 4-8 pm.
A funeral service for Paul will be held Thursday, March 11, 11 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 31450 6 Mile Rd, Livonia, gathering of family and friends will begin at 10 am.
