Maria Elena Leyva White

April 8, 1945 February 27, 2021

Maria Elena Leyva White, 75, of Crawfordville, Georgia, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 27th, 2021 surrounded by family in Union Point, Georgia. She was born April 8th, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona to the late Diego Sandoval Leyva and Jennie Quiroz Leyva. Maria retired from Mr. C 's in September 2017, a job she held for 13 years and was much loved by her customers.

Maria had many roles throughout her life, most importantly being a mother to her 6 children, Eugene A. Lashley, Greensboro, GA; O. Norman Lashley (Shelby), Eatonton, GA; Tina L. Brown (Eddie), Greensboro, GA; Lisa R. Smith (Matthew), Crawfordville, GA; Marco R. Lashley (Nancy), Greensboro, GA; Delphina A. Rojo (Edward), Acton, MA and an adopted son, Robert Watkins of Ila, GA. 13 Grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Guadalupe Concepcion Hernandez, and an uncle, Guadalupe Miranda Talamontes.

In addition to being a mother, Maria held jobs outside of the home, employed by Byran Scott, Nibco, and Circle of Love. She also worked as a First Responder, earning her CDL license at the age of 47, then drove a school bus in Houston, Texas, and at age 51 worked and earned her CNA license, later working as a private sitter for a short time. She loved being around people, traveling, and shopping especially. She was an avid gardener and had an incredible green thumb; her cacti collection was quite extensive. Maria was a talented cook, beautiful seamstress, and had a smile that could brighten any room.

Maria was loved by all who knew her and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She will be missed by many and remembered by all.

In addition to her children, she is survived by her siblings; brothers, Frank Hernandez (Lupe), Mesa, AZ, Richard D. Leyva (Yolanda), Chula Vista, CA, John D. Leyva, Yuma, AZ, sisters; Hope Trujillo, Yuma, AZ, Jennie L. Franks, Winterhaven, CA, Lydia R. Harrison, Phoenix, AZ and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be held, Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Mark Yearwood officiating.
