Hughson, California - Elizabeth Mae (Betty, Liz, Jibbs) Hedrick-Sanders 92, was born in Green Forest Arkansas, the youngest of four sisters. She attended Green Forest schools through tenth grade, until she moved to Harrison, Arkansas and graduated from Harrison High School in 1946. For a short time Betty worked as a telephone operator until she eloped with her husband of 68 years, Alvin "Al" Sanders, on December 14, 1946. Al and Betty moved to California and lived in various towns in the Central Valley before ultimately settling in Modesto in 1963. There they raised their two daughters and eventually moved to Samaritan Village in Hughson, California in 2011.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents Herbert Hedrick and Rena Leathers-Hedrick; sisters: Madrene, Wilma, and Helen; half-sisters: Carole, and Connie. She is survived by daughters: Kristen (Mark) Thompson of La Grange, Jan (Mark) Yaeger of Idaho, Grandsons: Casey Stone of Twain Harte, Jesse Stone of Turlock, Jon Yaeger (Lynnessa Cook and great grandson Everett Hanely) of Modesto, half-siblings: Charles Wayne (Marcia) Hedrick of Kansas, George (JoAnn) Hedrick of Missouri, Susan (Larry) Parton of Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a homemaker and attended Centenary United Methodist Church in Modesto for many years and worked in their resale store. She also worked as a realtor and for a dental lab, but her passion was painting. She enjoyed attending art classes and many of her beautiful paintings were accepted into the Modesto Art Museum. Betty was an avid dog lover and spoiled many throughout her lifetime. She was very competitive and enjoyed playing card and board games. Above all Betty loved her family, her "kin" were very important to her. Betty was sweet and spirited at the same time and won the hearts of many that knew her. She will be greatly missed. The family is very grateful to the staff at Samaritan Village in Hughson, for the outstanding care given and love shown to our beloved spunky Betty.
