Benjamin Lewis (Ben) Barnes, age 81 of Jackson, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at Wellstar Sylvan Grove Hospital. He was born Thursday, July 20, 1939 in Butts County to the late Marvin & Lula Pike Barnes.

Ben had been employed at State Supply Company before beginning his career with the Jackson Police Department, Jackson Fire Department and the Butts County Sheriff’s Department; he was working security and maintenance with the Butts County Board of Education at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and taking care of his pets.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years; Eleanor Gayle Barnes, his children; Russell (Rusty) & Anne Barnes, David (P-nut) & Maria Barnes, Jeff & Denise Barnes, Lisa & Brian Bass, grandchildren; Christopher Barnes, Ali & Chris Davis, Cassie Barnes, Jody Nelson, Cainan Barnes, Emma Bass, Kylie Bass, Sophie Bass, Brennon Bass, Michelle Biles & Carlos Duffey, Brian & Ashe Biles, Jennifer Biles, great grandchildren; Cooper Davis, Finley Davis, Tristan Navarro, Nevaeh Nelson Vanien Deeraman, Madison Williams, Mackenzie Williams, Hexum Biles, Gwyneth Biles and Hailey Bishop, and one brother Jim & Frances Barnes. In addition to his parents Ben was also preceded in death by his son; Marvin Lee Barnes, brothers; Bill Barnes and Marvin (Junior) Barnes, and his sisters; Frances Barnes Moore and Betty Barnes Gerald.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Benjamin Lewis (Ben) Barnes will be held in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 3:00 PM. Rev. Skip Mitchell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home for one hour immediately prior to the Service. At other times you may visit with the Family at their residence, 461 Halls Bridge Rd, Jackson, GA. Please remember to wear mask and observe social distancing in accordance with the CDC guidelines when attending the Service and visitation.
