He moved to Georgia in 1972. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He retired with 20 years of service with the Marines, earning a Purple Heart from his service in Korea. He retired from the Georgia Department of Labor after 25 years. He was a member of the John Mohr MacKintosh Pipe Band, and a member of North Metro Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sara Shaffer, Lawrenceville; children, Carmen Collins (Andy), Lawrenceville, Sheryl Evatt (Don), Suwanee; and grandchildren, Matthew Collins, Laura Collins, Daniel Evatt (Katie), Stephen Evatt.
