Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Elmer Beal Gardner, 87, of 1741 Telegraph, a school administrator more than 50 years, who died in a local hospital Friday after a short illness. A Stockton resident nine years, he served as principal of Escalon Union High School from 1934 to 1938, superintendent of elementary schools in Madera 20 years, and a principal of Berenda Elementary in Madera until his retirement. Mr. Gardner received his AB from the University of Oklahoma, and MA from the University of Oregon, an LLB from the University of Arkansas, and a Doctor of Civil Law from The School of Law, Little Rock, Ark. He served as mayor of North Little Rock, Ark., for two years before moving to California in 1926.
Survivors include his wife, Marie, a daughter, Mrs. William Thayer of Stockton; two sisters, Mrs. A.F. Henry of Arkansas and Mrs. C.E. Martin of Tennessee, and two grandchildren.
