Carol Emily (Tavares) Hayes- 12/30/1948-2/28/2021
Carol “Toodie” of Plymouth, Massachusetts passed peacefully at the age of 72 in Boca Raton, Florida with her husband, the love of her life, Michael C. Hayes by her side. She was born in Plymouth, Mass to John and Arminda (Pires) Tavares, the founders of Capt. John Boats. Survived by her brother Stanley R. Tavares of Plymouth, Mass and her daughter Megan L. (Cordeiro) Scott of Plymouth, Mass, Tiffany N. Hayes of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Dennis M. Cordeiro of Dunedin, Florida. She is predeceased by her son Jared M. Cordeiro. Carol was Nana to Chandler J. Cordeiro, Cameryn A. Cordeiro, and Andrew M. Scott. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, along with many friends. Carol was raised in Plymouth, Massachusetts and graduated from Plymouth Carver High School, Class of 1966. Carol continued her education by graduating with an Associate's Degree in Business. She held many jobs over the years from being an office manager for Capt. John Boats for over 45 years, working by her husband’s side as an administrator for Hayes Landscaping for 21 years, and owning and operating the Tales of the Sea Emporium and Ice Cream shop, “Where you can find all your nautical knick knacks and trinkets!” for 28 years.

Carol loved to travel with her family and close friends. She enjoyed playing blackjack in Las Vegas and Foxwoods often. She also loved to shop with her two best friends Judy Lowney and Ginger Hennessey, they were known as “The Devil’s Triangle”. In Plymouth and Boca she enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren boating, zip-lining, and driving over curbs “ ‘Cause that’s what 4-wheel drive is for!”. She also enjoyed boating on “The Playmaker”. Carol adored hosting and catering a family Reunion and Christmas Eve Party annually. Nana’s kitchen is always an exciting place from making delicious dishes, starting oven fires and even blowing up eggs.

Carol played field hockey, but her love for the sport really came from cheering on Jared and Chandler playing ice hockey. She was also a self-renounced elite athlete from skiing, volleyball and bowling to scuba diving, roller blading and even completing the Lake Placid Olympic luge run! During a trip to Alaska with Michael she took on white water rafting where she was irate that her hair got wet. Her hair was “Business in the front and party in the back!” As you can tell Toodie “skipped” through a wonderful and fulfilling life full of laughs and beautiful moments with her loved ones. For the last 10 months Carol has courageously and bravely fought an aggressive brain tumor; glioblastoma multiforme. Only hours after having brain surgery her surgeon said, “Miss Carol, wait up!” as she rushed down the hall determined to go home. Nana was “hanging in there” while fighting this incurable cancer and she will always be our hero. Carol will be keeping an eye on “all you’s guys”.
