JOHN HERBERT DOUGHERTY John H. Dougherty, 88 died on February 28, 2021 at California Park Rehabilitation Hospital. He was born May 21, 1932, in Hazleton, PA, the son of John and Violet Dougherty. He graduated from High School at the Mining and Mechanical Institute in PA. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Pennsylvania in Political Science and his master's is in Governmental Administration. After he graduated, he serviced as a US Army Counterintelligence Corps Special Agent. He moved to Chico in 1955 and was the Administrative Assistant City Manager and later became the Deputy City Manager in Chico. He retired in June 1990 from the city and later became an instructor at Butte College teaching California State and Local Government as well as consulting for variety clients. He married Teal Nichols Dougherty, April 7, 1990 in Chico. They spent the past 30 years, traveling and living in California Park on the lake. He was an amazing mentor and friend to many. May he join his wife and Rest in Peace! John is survived by a large loving family. Children: Erin Dougherty, stepchildren; Lisa Rivoallon (Frederic), Wendy Maxfield (Justin Miller), William Nichols, Jr. and 6 grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held sometime in March/April 2021.
