Tammy (Smith) Schaefer, 25, town of Dewey, died on Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Barron County due to a traffic accident.She was born in Spooner on Nov. 11, 1973, to Dorothy and Bud Smith. She graduated from Shell Lake High School in 1992 and attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. On Aug. 20, 1994, she married Dan Schaefer in Spooner. They resided in Barron County, moving to the town of Dewey 2 1/2 years ago. Tammy had been employed at the Wisconsin Animal Health Lab in Barron for the past five years.She had been the Tri County Dairy Queen, the Wisconsin State Honey Queen, and the four-county Honey Queen. She was active in Future Business Leaders of America, 4-H, and the Future Farmers of America and served as an adult leader in 4-H for Barron and Washburn counties.Survivors include her husband; two children, Brianna and Caitlyn; her parents; her maternal grandmother, Esther Furchtenicht, Spooner; three sisters, Theresa (Steven) Scheil, Cameron, Trudy Smith, St. Louis Park, Minn., and Tania Smith, Shell Lake; four brothers, Kevin (Laurie) Smith, Shell Lake, Rodney (Brenda) Smith, Croix Falls, Ken (Shannon) Smith, Shell Lake, and Jerry Smith, Haugen; and nieces and nephews.A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 12, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Spooner, with Fr. James Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Shell Lake Cemetery.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Pockat Funeral Home, Shell Lake.Pockat Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.A memorial fund is being established for Tammy's children
