In August 1999, Trooper Bond won the agency's Medal of Honor for rescuing two people from a burning house.
In June 2001, Exit 10 on I-90, was renamed to the Trooper Matthew R. Bond Memorial Interchange in his honor.
Trooper Bond had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for four years and four months, and is survived by his wife, parents, sister, and stepbrother.
