CHATHAM - Jackie "Jack" B. Cole, 80, of Chatham died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 at St. John's Hospice.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Jacksonville to Bert and Maime Harmon Cole who preceded him in death along with his sons Jeffrey and Christopher, and brother Russell.

Mr. Cole retired in 1981 after 33 years of service as a brigadier general from the Army National Guard. Mr. Cole received many awards including: Meritorious Service Medal, Army commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Reserve Components Achievement Medal, State of Illinois Long and Honorable Service Medal and Illinois Medal of Merit. He also worked at the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety, Division of Emergency Planning as a disaster service planner, retiring in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, son, Mark (wife, Christine), and grandchildren, Maime and Jeffery, all of Glenarm; sister-in-law, Delores Cole of Tyler, Texas; cousins, Marcella Heinkle of Springfield and Juanita Young of Chicago; and several nieces.

His family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 201 South Main, Illinois 4, Chatham. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Staab Polk Memorial Home with the Rev. Wesley Osborn officiating. Burial in Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville.
