RICHARD LOGAN, born April 1806, is a native of Tyrone County, Ireland. In 1841 he came to America, living in New York five years, in Pittsburgh, Pa., sixteen years, thence to Iowa in 1852 [there is obviously an error of 10 years somewhere in this account], where he has since resided. In 1831 Mr. Logan was married to Mary Dery, a native of Ireland, by whom he has had three children; all are living. When Mr. Logan began the great life’s work which lay before him, his circumstances were very limited; and as we look around us we find that most of our leading men began in the same way. With a good knowledge of what he had to do to make farming a success; with a zeal that is common to a favored few; by practicing economy, yet avoiding parsimony, Mr. Logan has become one of the leading farmers in Franklin Township. He now has a good farm of about 600 acres, a good home, and a loving family with whom to spend the remainder of his days.
