Gregory W. Minton, 31, formerly of Evansville, died on March 7, 2020 In Philadelphia. Greg attended Christ the King School and Memorial High School in Evansville before spending a semester at University of Evansville. As a gifted pianist, passionate about music, he was accepted at Berkeley College of Music in Boston. When he left Berkeley, he took a few years away from school and enrolled at University of Maryland in College Park, MD to study journalism. Greg was a brilliant writer and a thoughtful, well-read intellectual. Greg moved back to his adopted home in Philadelphia about three years ago to live with and among his friends. Happy to be back, he often sported a favorite t-shirt that said it all: “I’m not angry, I’m from Philly”. He loved showing friends and family around the city, talking politics and Apple products, taking long walks, listening to progressive rock, heavy metal, jazz, show tunes, and nerdy podcasts. An overdose of heroin laced with Fentanyl ultimately ended his life.
Crushed by the most heart-rending call parents and friends could ever receive, we decided to share the cause of death, hoping to warn of the dangers of heroin and Fentanyl. Greg is survived by his parents, Sherri & Don Minton of Evansville, his grandmother Sue Noveroske of Newburgh, and grandparents Imogene & Donald Minton of Bowling Green, KY. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Scott Minton, Carmel, In. He has a step-grandmother, three aunts from Bowling Green. He is also survived by cousins.
The family will have a private service to entomb Greg with his brother, Adam. Rather than visitation and a funeral, the family would like to invite friends and family to take a moment after reading this to think of a few good memories of Greg. He was a talented and unique young man who was loved very much. Memorial contributions may be made to 7 Sisters, 2019 E. Chandler Ave., a local non-for-profit organization devoted to breaking the silence on coping with drug addiction and the emotional damage it does to the entire family.
