Charles (Chuck) Henry Hunt, 94, passed away February 17, 2021, in Portland, Oregon, leaving behind a legacy of love, marked by wonderful friendships and strong family bonds. Defined by a generous spirit and good humor, Chuck was always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, and try new things. He was the best of friends and the proud father of three daughters. He found great joy in his family, which extended to five generations, earning him the name “Grandpa Grandpa” from his great-grandchildren and “G3” from his great-great-grand children.
Born to Bertha and Ralph Hunt Sr. May 6, 1926, in Jamison, Nebraka, Chuck’s life took him many places, including homes in South Dakota, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Always a hard worker, Chuck learned several trades, including as both baker and jockey at age 14.
At 17, Chuck married his childhood sweetheart Joyce, and left school to serve in the Navy during World War II. In 1995, Homedale High School awarded him an honorary diploma in recognition for his service. After the war, Chuck trained as an electrician through the G.I. Bill. He worked as a refrigeration technician, opened his own store, Hunt’s Appliances, and retired from the Fred Meyer dairy plant.
In his retirement, he kept busy as an owner/trainer of thoroughbred racehorses and enjoyed boating, gambling, building, and traveling. He especially enjoyed trips to Nevada with his love Lorraine and their friends. He was a founding member of the Milwaukee Elks and a lifetime member of the Vancouver Elks, as well as the American Legion, NW Trailer Sailors, and the Oregon Racing Commission.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Joyce Hunt; sisters, Eleanor Turner and Patricia Petersen; and brother, Ralph Hunt Jr; He is survived by his partner of 47 years, Lorraine Golden; his three daughters, Joyce Smith (Rodney), Charlene Hunt, and Cheryl White (Bill); nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grand children.
Chuck’s long life was full of love, family and friends, including in his final moments. His family would like to express appreciation and thanks to Kaiser Hospice and nurses Wendy Johnson and Kelly Cary, but most especially gratitude to Lorraine and Dean Golden for their loving care and companionship.
There was a graveside service on March 6th, 2021 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington.
