ELLEN RUTH CURTIS
1921 ˜ 2020

With sadness, the Curtis family announces the passing of Ellen Curtis.

Ellen grew up in Jetmore, Kansas, among the sunflowers, farmers, cows and wheat. She always shared fond memories of jumping out of the hayloft with her brother Bob and reading books while sister Jane did the chores.

She left a career in education to marry a handsome man in the military, Jim Curtis. Together they traveled to France, Japan, and several US locations. They raised two children, Jan and Bill, and settled in Vancouver, Washington, in 1966.

She took art classes at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington and enjoyed working in the Archer Gallery. She was also an integral voice in keeping Centerpointe Park the green space Vancouverites enjoy today. Ellen has been spoken of as one of the kindest people in the world and her family is in complete agreement. We will miss this amazing and strong woman who lived through the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, World War II, and so much more. Our family thanks you for sharing your fun stories and kind words.

Private services were held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. In memoriam donations can be made in Ellen's name to the Clark College Foundation for the Archer Gallery. Clark College Foundation, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver, WA 98663-3598.

Published in The Columbian, Vancouver, Washington on February 28, 2021.
