Rev. James W. Higgins and his wife Talithia (Barnes) Higgins, whom he married on Oct 8, 1851 in Gwinnett County, Georgia were the parents of at least 12 children. He served during the Civil War, and in addition to being a "hardshell" Baptist preacher, he made chairs to support the family. It is believed he died in Gwinnett County, but a burial site has not been found. It is likely he was buried in the Higgins Family Cemetery. His widow, and a number of their children moved to Polk County, Arkansas in Feb 1904.
