John Edwards Patton passed from this life on Saturday morning, Feb. 27, 2021, at home. John was born on December 3, 1942 in Monett, Mo., son of the late Hershal Patton and Evelyn (Edwards) Patton.

He married Alice (Stockton) Patton on Jan. 17, 1964 and she survives. They were blessed with over 57 wonderful years together.

To this union two children were born. One son Jim Patton (Janell), one daughter Jennifer (Patton) Nickell (Jimmie) all of Monett.

Four grandchildren Kaitlyn Nickell, Aaron Patton (fiance’ Megan Heman), Josh Nickell (fiance’ Michaela Wallace) and Abigail Patton.

One brother Max Etter, Monett, Mo.

He was a 1960 graduate of Monett High School.

John had an infectious love for life. He was a friend to everyone and enjoyed telling stories, most of which he would make up as he went along. His smile and laugh would light up a room.

He loved his wife, children and grandchildren deeply. He spent many hours watching his grandchildren in whatever they were involved in. He never walked out of a room without saying “I love you” to them.

Almost every afternoon, John would take a leisurely drive around Monett to see what was going on. He would stop in and visit with his buddies at Ken’s Barber Shop where they would spend hours solving the world’s problems. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the VFW.

John was an avid sports fan and loved St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a past member of the Monett Jaycees and a Past Master of Monett Lodge #129 AF&AM.

John was one of the best salespersons around. He worked for Wilks Lumber Co. for many years, and eventually retired from Jimmie Michel Motors in Aurora, Mo. After retirement, he drove a school bus in Monett. He very much enjoyed talking to the children on his bus routes and driving athletes and coaching staff to games.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 4, at the Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City, Mo.
