Toby, also known as “Pops,” was employed by the United States Postal Service for 35 years and also a member of the Hawai’i National Guard. He was known as the “Mayor of Wailuku” (if you know you know). Toby was an avid softball player, golfer, bowler and pool hustler. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He was pre-deceased by his lovely wife Deanna Pali Fernandez and survived by his caring companion Janet Fernandez; sisters Judy (Stanley) Akoi of Hana and Clara (Donald) Panela of Wailuku; children Minei (Graylen) Strahan, Thomas Jr. (Cyndi) Fernandez, Hoku Kihune, Kimmy (Frank) Rodrigues, Randy (Sharon) Fernandez, Wenceslaus (Tina) Jarnesky, Joey (Chelsea) Fernandez; 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19, a private service and burial will be held. There will be a public drive-thru viewing at Ballard’s Mortuary on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
On behalf of Toby’s ohana, we would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, gifts and outpouring love and support. We would also like to thank the many care givers and nurses at Maui Memorial Hospital. Mahalo nui loa!
