Ramon Chavez, Jr.

Reno - Ramon passed away peacefully on February 21, 2021. He was diagnosed with brain cancer (Primary CNS lymphoma) in August 2020.

He was born to Florence and Ramon Chavez, Sr. on July 3, 1942 in El Paso, Texas. As an infant, the family moved to the Los Angeles area. Ramon graduated from Montibello High School in 1960 and joined the United States Air Force specializing in communications. In 1965, he was hired by PacBell and worked in downtown LA. He transferred to Reno in 1978 and retired from Lucent after 37 years in the industry. After retirement, Ramon worked for Michael Hohl Motors GMC/Cadillac, Home Depot and most recently, CarMax, where he was passionate about his job and the CarMax family.

Ramon is survived by his wife Kris of 29 years, daughter Danielle (Craig) Franden, son-in-law Daniel Jimenez (Lisa), granddaughter Natalia Jimenez, nephew Jeff Binkley (Michelle), niece Alexis Astling, brothers-in-law Bob Kubasiak (Kathy) and Terry Kubasiak (Juanita), and his beloved dog Kadee. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Alan Binkley.

Ramon was a past member of both Washoe County Search and Rescue and Ducks Unlimited, a life member of BPOE-Reno Elks Lodge #597 and has been with the Reno Rodeo Association for 40 years, where he served on multiple committees, the executive board and most recently director emeritus. He was also a former member of the Hidden Valley Country Club.

Ramon enjoyed life and had no regrets. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed golfing, dominos, NFL football and riding his Harley Davidson, making memories on the many motorcycle trips he took with his buddies.

Due to Covid restrictions, a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Ramon's memory to the Reno Rodeo Association, P.O. Box 12335, Reno, NV 89510.
