Garry Wayne Thompson (age 65) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 14, 2021. He was born December 29, 1955, in Toledo, OH, to Billy and Mildred Thompson. He was the second son of five children. They were a close family and remained a big part of each other’s lives. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a child.
Garry lived most of his life in Toledo besides the few years he lived in Georgia serving in the US Army. He moved back to Toledo and got a bachelor degree in business.
His favorite thing to do was spend time with family. He loved family get togethers. He also loved going to eat with Cathy. On any given day, you would find them at a restaurant or sitting outside enjoying the sunshine. Many times he would tell Cathy while she was making him pull weeds or mop- “I can’t work, Cathy. I’m on disability.”
To have known Garry is to have known patience, kindness, and gentleness. He also told us often, “I don’t get into trouble.” Most of the time this was said to his sisters who were trying to get him to do something he considered “trouble”. He would then remind them that he was the elder and they couldn’t tell him what to do. He was a great big brother.
He is survived by his sisters Cathy Lawson (Eddie), Laura Lawson, and Lisa Cline. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother George Edward Thompson (Carol). We know they are rejoicing in Heaven together now. Garry lived with his parents and cared for them until they passed.
Garry never let us say “Goodbye” to him all these years. He said that meant we wouldn’t see each other again, so it was always “Goodnight”. So, until we can hug his neck again, we say, “Goodnight. We will see you again.”
Family will be receiving guests from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Road Toledo, Ohio 43623 (419 473 0300). Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Garry will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park.
