Edward died by drowning in the Mary River at Maryborough

The Moreton Bay Courier Wed 24 Feb 1858 reports

I regret to have to record the death of Edward Bunting, a servant in the employ of A. F. Halloran, Esq., our Commissioner of Crown Lands. The unfortunate deceased left Maryborough on Saturday afternoon last, in a boat, to proceed to Mr. Halloran's residence, about three miles up the river, on the opposite side, and was to have returned in the evening for Miss Halloran.
Nothing was heard of him, and on Sunday evening great anxiety was felt at his non-appearance. On Monday morning a search was instituted, and the boat was found some miles up the river, where it had been carried by the tide. This morning some boys reported that they had seen a body floating down the river, and a search was at once prosecuted, which resulted in the recovery of the unfortunate man in a fearful state. An enquiry, I believe, will be held tomorrow into the circumstances. The deceased has left a wife and large family to deplore his untimely fate.
Wide Bay, Feb. 16, 1858.
