Dr. Robert Moore Stockard, Jr. 91, of Elon passed away at the Hospice Home on Saturday, July 27, 2019.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Lois Long Stockard and the son of the late Dr. Robert Moore Stockard, Sr. and the late Jessie Patterson Stockard.
Dr. Stockard was a veteran of the United States Air Force, as well as a former teacher, assistant principal, and principal at Southern Alamance High School. He went on to be the assistant superintendent and finally the superintendent of the Alamance County School System. He was also a member, deacon and elder of Graham Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Stockard was recognized by many for his long and distinguished career as an educator. Of the most notable, he received the District 9 and the North Carolina Support Administrator of the Year Award. In addition, the Southern High School Library is named and designated as the Robert Moore Stockard, Jr. Library. He also received recognition for his dedication to the AFROTC program, the NC Department of Public Instruction and the Graham High School Foundation of the Arts.
Dr. Stockard was renowned for his wooden boat models and model trains with numerous newspaper and magazine articles written about him. Even Dr. Stockard's hobby was a source of notoriety as three of his intricately detailed ship models are displayed in several North Carolina coastal museums.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Stockard Hodge and her husband C. Timothy Hodge of Charlotte and Catherine Stockard Anderson and her husband Dr. Marshall Wilson Anderson, III of Burlington; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hodge Patchett and her husband Robert Patchett of Holly Springs, Clayton Timothy Hodge of Charlotte, Marshall Wilson Anderson, IV "Will" and his wife Lauren Snipes Anderson of Greensboro and Caroline Anderson Childs and her husband C. Luke Childs of Asheville; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Patchett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Stockard Campbell.
