Rosie McKnight McCoy-Shaw was born January 30, 1938 to the late Lonnie McKnight, Sr. and the late Mae Ola Fielder McKnight in Belcher, Louisiana. She was educated in the Karnack Schools and H. B. Pemberton High School. She graduated from H. B. Pemberton High School in 1955 and from Madam C. J. Walker Cosmetology School, and Hurd Beauty Barber Business College. Rosie graduated from Wiley College with a BS Degree in education.

She began her career in the department stores, Sanger Harris, Howard Wolf, and Sears where she was a manager for many years.

Rosie was a cosmetology instructor at Marshall Beauty College before operating her own business. She was owner of Magic Touch Beauty Salon before retiring.

Mrs. Shaw was a member of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church for many years.

She was united in marriage with Andrew McCoy, Jr. and to this union three beautiful daughters were born. Later in life, she was united in marriage with the late Horace E. Shaw, II until his death.
