Robert was born on February 2, 1930 to the late Albert and Evie Sawyer Phipps. Robert Phipps was one of the kindest souls to walk this earth. He was beloved as a son, husband, dad, papaw, and friend. Each relationship he cherished beyond measure. He accomplished so much in his life time that the list could go on and on. He loved to do many things and each endeavor got all that he had to give. From raising a beautiful garden, building gorgeous wooden furniture, and raising birds, to being one of the best bee men around, his talents were endless. He always had a smile and a good story for anyone that was lucky to cross his path. To say he will be missed would be an understatement, but we know we will meet again.

He is preceded in death by two brothers; Wake Phipps and Lewis Phipps.

Mr. Phipps is survived by his wife; Betty Phipps, two sons; Robbie Phipps and wife Carol of North Wilkesboro, and Charles Phipps and wife Tina of Crumpler, three daughters; Vickie Yearick and husband Karlton of West Jefferson, Melissa Vannoy and husband Eddie of Jefferson, and Renessa Phipps of Crumpler, two brothers; Bunt Phipps of Crumpler and Bill Phipps and wife Ann of Fleetwood, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New River Cemetery, C/O Terry Pruitt, 1175 Smithy Road, Crumpler, NC 28617.
