Dr. Jerry R. Broadway, 91, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1st at First Baptist Church East Sanctuary with Dr. Bob McCartney officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
Private interment will be at Crestview Memorial Park, at a later date, under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
The son of the late Thelma (Lowe) and Roy Broadway, Jerry was born on August 3, 1929, in Port Arthur, Texas. The Broadways moved to Miami, Texas where Jerry’s father, Roy, became the Gulf Oil distributer. From there they moved to Borger, Texas. When Jerry was fourteen, the Broadways moved to Wichita Falls where his father continued as the Gulf Oil distributer.
Jerry graduated in 1946 from Wichita Falls Senior High School. He attended Hardin College (now Midwestern State University) and was accepted into the Baylor College of Dentistry. On December 26, 1950 Jerry married Mary Evelyn Williams. After graduating from dental school, Jerry spent two years in the army. In 1953, Jerry and Mary Evelyn moved back to Wichita Falls where he practiced dentistry until he retired in 2001.
Jerry poured his life into whatever he did. During his dental career, Jerry was a lifetime member of the Texas Dental Association, serving as president of the Wichita County Dental Society. Jerry’s life was grounded in his deep faith and love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was dedicated to First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, faithfully serving as a deacon for many years, as well as on numerous committees. Jerry’s commitment to education led him to serve on the Board of Regents at Hardin Simmons University. He also loved Midwestern State University, serving as an active member of The M Club. He rarely missed a basketball game as long as he could physically attend.
The brightest light in Jerry’s life was his family. In addition to his deep love for Mary Evelyn, Jerry loved and doted on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He shared his love through his extraordinary sense of humor. His talents as a storyteller were prized by all during many a family meal and on holidays. In 2018, Jerry and Mary Evelyn moved to Rolling Meadows and met many new friends. While there, Jerry continued to regale his storytelling. Jerry and Mary Evelyn enjoyed travel around the world with their friends, taking them to destinations as far-flung as China and Australia, as well as many other countries.
Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Brannon. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Evelyn Broadway; daughter Vicki Henslee and husband, David, of Wichita Falls, daughter Marcia Carson and husband, Ted, of McKinney, Texas, son, Chris Broadway and wife, Cathy of Colleyville, Texas, and niece Susan Cunningham and husband Gary of Plano, Texas. Jerry and Mary Evelyn are blessed with 7 grandchildren: Meredith Latimer and husband Brannon, Allyson Ward and husband Mike, Brian Henslee and wife Margaret, Kristin Garcia and husband Richard, Caroline Bales and husband Joseph, Kyle Broadway and Elizabeth Conley and husband Josh. They are also blessed with 17 great grandchildren.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 1200 Ninth Street, Wichita Falls, TX 76301.
