Billy Norman Morgan, (“Bill”) left this world February 23, 2021 at 11:20 a.m. surrounded by the comfort of his family over these past few weeks.
Bill was born June 10, 1935 to William Suel Morgan and Roxie (Hunt) Morgan in 6-mile township (Dutch Hill), IL.
As 1 of 15 children, he helped his family on their farm, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and creating any other mischief they could find. He graduated from Elkville High School, and after graduating he married the love of his life, Minerva Adell Murphy, on December 28, 1955. He graduated from Lake Forest College of Business Management. He had several jobs, including working at the second McDonald’s ever built, before going to work as a machinist at Clayton Mark Company, where he later became plant supervisor, until he retired. At home, he was a different kind of “plant supervisor,” teaching his children the art of Weed Extraction, and many other gardening lessons. He taught his children many other things, like how to care for a vehicle even before they were old enough to drive. He also taught them how to use guns safely and they spent quality hours hunting together. He was father to Roxie Diane, William “Billy” Edwin, Norman Keith and Anita Fay. In 1976, he was awarded Father of the Year in the town of Mundelein, IL, after his daughter, Anita, wrote an essay about what a wonderful father he was. He retired at the age of 55 and he and Minerva moved back to Southern Illinois and purchased their forever home in Johnston City. There, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and mowing. He loved pineapple sundaes and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren, including taking them on many walks to Dairy Queen, feeding them until they were stuffed and then skipping all the way home. He loved to make them laugh by singing, “Billy Boy,” and “Clementine.”
