Yolanda Thompson Stewart, 52, entered into eternal rest on February 19, 2021, in Plano, TX, surrounded by her family.
Yolanda was born March 29, 1968, in Wichita Falls, TX. She was the daughter of Reverend Angus Thompson and first lady, Shirley Thompson. She was one of four siblings.
She began her early education at Episcopal Day School, Ben Franklin Elementary and Zundy Jr. High, and as a blossoming athlete, participated in basketball and track. Yolanda would go on to attend Wichita Falls High School where she was a member of the school’s drill team. After graduation from Old High in 1986, she later attended Prairie View A&M and Midwestern State University where she was a criminal justice major.
Yolanda’s passion was the Lord and her three lovely daughters. Her first church membership was at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church where she came to know the Lord as a child. Yolanda was a regular participant in Sunday School and the children’s choir. Her relationship with the Lord grew, as her father, Reverend Angus Thompson, pastored Macedonia Baptist Church and later founded New Jerusalem Baptist Church. In the early years of New Jerusalem, Yolanda flourished in the armor of God—teaching bible school in the summer and singing in the choir. She ultimately found her true calling of service, the usher board, as one of the first ushers. As an adult, she was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, TX, where she was an usher as well.
Yolanda was the mother of three girls: Sharnese, Kiara, and Kailey. She was a loving mother who was fiercely devoted to her children. Her kids often said that she was the coolest mom. She took time to nurture each of her daughters’ individual talents. Her motto for her daughters will forever be, “always do your best.” She encouraged each of her children to develop a relationship with Christ and grow in their faith. She was an advocate for education and pushed her children to excel in the classroom. Her legacy of hard work is seen through her daughters. Sharnese is a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU) and received her master’s from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Kiara is a graduate of Texas A&M.
Yolanda applied the same dedication to her career. She brought her kind spirit to work every day. She was a valued employee of PVI Industries for over 20 years working as a customer service supervisor and a credit manager. She began her career at the Kickapoo Airport and later moved on to the Texas Lottery.
She is preceded in death by grandparents, Herod and Ollie Houston; grandfather, Jessie Thompson and sister, Renate Harris.
Yolanda Thompson Stewart is survived by parents, Rev. Angus and Shirley Thompson; daughters, Sharnese Harris (John), Kiara Stewart, and Kailey Stewart; sister, Monica Thompson; brother, Omar Thompson, Sr. (Courtney); grandmother, Katherine Waldon; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives, and cherished friends.
