Matthew V. Summers of Rockford earned his heavenly wings on February 22, 2021.
Born in Racine, WI to Joseph and Emily Summers, he worked in the paper and publishing industries, ending his career with 15 years at Georgia Pacific. After retiring, he couldn't sit still and worked at Elliot Golf Course. He happily took on a job at Vineyard Books and Gifts. His happiest moments were spent with his family. He loved to travel, spending many winters in Arizona, taking vacations to Disneyworld, Europe, and his dream place – Hawaii where he loved feeling the warmth and sunshine. He also enjoyed seeing his grandchildren perform in choir concerts, piano recitals, and numerous sporting events. He was an active parishioner at St. John Nepomuk in Racine and at his current parish, Holy Family in Rockford. Everyone who met him loved his charisma, personality warmth, and humor.
Matt's survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Marianne (Konicek); 5 children: Joseph (Debra), Julie, James (Traci), Jeffrey (Kathleen) and John (Kim); sister, Irene Taylor; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
