Charles Jefferson Thomas of Lexington, formerly of Maysville was born on September 22, 1936 in Shelbyville, Illinois to Elbert J. and Geniva (Agney) Thomas. He passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in Lexington, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years.
Charles grew up around east St. Louis, Illinois and at the age of 18 years he joined the United States Army. While serving his country, he was stationed in Korea, France, Vietnam, and numerous places in the United States. He retired from the military on January 30, 1975 after 20 years of service. After retiring, he went to work for GTE for 15 years, Harris Construction, and Cimarron Trailers and finally retired from working altogether in 2004. Charles met his bride to be, Naomi Mantooth, on a blind date and they were married on December 25, 1959 in Purcell. After all of their travels with the military, they moved back to where Charles considered his hometown, Maysville, in 1975 where they remained until moving to Lexington a few years ago. He was an excellent carpenter and made furniture including chess tables for other people. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Naomi of Lexington.
Sons, Tony Thomas of Noble and Danny Thomas and wife Kathy of Noble.
Daughters: Janet Thomas of Ada and Teresa Thomas of Wynnewood.
Brothers: Bobby Thomas of Shelbyville, Illinois; Elbert Thomas and wife Joy of Tennessee; and Jackey Thomas and wife Gay of Illinois.
Sisters: Barbara Thomas of Shelbyville, Illinois and Carol Abbott of Matoon, Illinois.
12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Geniva Thomas; son, Gary; sisters, Shirley Lafland, Dorothy Thomas, and Juanita; and brothers-in-law, Albert and Alton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 1, 2021 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville with Bro. Johnny Tyler officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 1, 2021 in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, 2648 NE Jake Dunn Road, Elgin, OK 73538 under the direction of John W.
