Bobby "Lee" Gray
December 24, 1930 - February 14, 2021

Bobby “Lee” Gray went to be with the Lord on February 14th, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born Dec 24, 1930 In Bahama NC, a little village outside of Durham to Anna Lee Peacock and Marvin Speed Gray. He had four siblings, brothers John, Dan, Michael and sister Virginia. Growing up he worked on the family farm growing and processing tobacco. This is where he learned he did not want to farm or process tobacco for a living.

His school was a one-room schoolhouse that had multiple grades. His high school graduating class had only 17 people.

After high school, he worked in D.C. at the F.B.I. under J. Edgar Hoover before entering the Army and going to Korea where He was a 1st lieutenant. He married Pat Gibeau before going and had two children, Michelle while He was in Korea and John when He was back in the states. He earned the Purple Heart when a grenade exploded near him and his captain.

After Korea, he settled in Modesto,CA, and started working for Social Security, and eventually moved to Fresno where he continued with Soc. Sec. He then met his future wife Irene at PWP. She was a widow with a young son Brian Haskins. They married on 12/26/59, had a daughter Lori and were married for 41 years until Irene’s untimely death in Sept 2000. He loved working there because he could drive and help people which were two of his favorite things. He retired in 1985 and went to work for Western Homes for ten years and a few other jobs to stay busy.

He had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When he married Irene they attended St Paul’s Methodist church until they started attending Northwest Church in1972. He was very active at Northwest. He lead and attended bible studies, was an usher, and a parking attendant. He also was a chaplain for the American Legion for a period of time .

He and mom had several different motorhomes and went on lots of trips including some back to NC., traveling all over country. He actually got baptized in the Jordan river on a trip to Israel.

He was a pretty big Fresno State bulldog fan but his favorite team was the Tar Heels at U.NC. where he attended for a short time. His saying until the end was, "Tar Heel born, Tar Heel Bred, Tar Heel til the day I'm dead!"

Lee/Bobby is survived by his brother Dan Gray of NC, son John Gray; son Brian Haskins (Bev) and daughter Lori Gray Murphy (Eddie) grandchildren Kristi Morgan Manewal (David)Jason, (Lauren), Jon(Nicole), Josh Haskins, Jordan, Christian,and Ian(Anna)Murphy and 7great, great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his brothers John and Michael Gray, his sister Virginia and his wife Irene and daughter Michelle.

The memorial will be at Farewell Funeral Home for the immediate family due to covid then a reception at 8615 E. Olive, Fresno, 93737 open to friends and family. RSVP's are a must due to covid 559-903-5832 or 559-977-8832.
