James Millard "Sonny" Cross

James Millard "Sonny" Cross, 87, of Rossville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was born in Chattanooga to the late Joe Washington & Gertrude Scoggins Cross and had lived in the Chattanooga & North Georgia areas for most of his life. He was an Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and had worked most of his life as a Painter. He was a member of Elkmont Baptist Church in Cleveland and loved spending time with his church family. His passion in life was following Christ and sharing his faith with all those he came into contact with. He was a loving and devoted brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather that will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Merriman Cross; son, James Doyle Cross and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his children & spouses, Vickie McElhaney, Kenneth & (Lori) Cross, Billy Cross, Steven & (Lynnsie) Cross and Martha & (Sutton) Johnson; brother, Freddy Cross; sisters & brother-in-law, Sue Parker and Betty Jean & (Bill) Springfield; 14 grandchildren, Kim Akins, Mary Akins, Heather Cross, Sidney Cross, Andrew Cross, Quinton Cross, Jamie King, Brandy Cross, Tiffany Hagan, Steven Cross, Aria Cross, Scott Waller, Brandon Waller and Molly Johnson; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, February 26, 2021 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Rev. Johnny Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens.
