Deacon Willie Clarence Russell

Deacon Willie Clarence Russell, 73, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020. He was born on May 11, 1947 to the late Claude Russell Sr. and Carrie Russell Adams in Bessemer, Alabama.

He graduated from Paul William Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama. Willie joined the United States Army in the 1960's and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharge at his last duty station, Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.

While living in Savannah, Georgia, he met the love of his life Evelyn Coleman Russell. To their beautiful union of twenty-six years. two lovely daughters were born.

Deacon Russell was a doorkeeper for the Lord, and he greeted everyone in the church with a smile, as a church usher. He faithfully attended all Bible studies and shared God's Word. He served the church in many auxiliaries and was ordained a devoted Deacon at Faith Christian Center. Deacon Russell loved the Lord and his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his mother Madea Carrie. He is survived by: two daughters; a son; his grandchildren; two brothers; a sister; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Brooks Family Funeral Home, 2885 Allison Bonnett Memorial Drive, Hueytown, Alabama 35023. Interment followed at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3115 18th Avenue North, Bessemer, Alabama 35020.

“The deacons must be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre (money); Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well, purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
